First time…again?

First time…again?

“And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time”

~ from T.S. Eliot’s “Little Gidding” from Four Quartets.

As adults, so much of what we “know” of the Bible has been learned in settings that teach a “right way” of understanding.  While this is not inherently a bad thing it does limit one’s understanding.  If you have had the privilege of the initial moment of latching your child to your breast to nurse, or watching a baby (human or otherwise) experience water for the first time, or witnessing a “first taste” of lemon, then you have had a glimpse of what it is to “know for the first time.”    Godly Play invites these knowings to happen in every story of scripture.  This week we wonder about Baptism, water, birth, adoption by God, community and Grace.  How might you prepare yourself for exploration this week?  What kind of courage does it take for you to wonder whether there is something new that God has in store for you and your life of faith?  It can be a bit overwhelming.  Don’t worry.  We are in this together.
