Come and See

Worship is rooted in John 1.43-51. Rev. Dr. Audrey West writes, “Who would imagine that God’s anointed one could come from a place so distant from the center of power? A messiah from Nazareth, in Galilee?! Inconceivable! … Whatever the genesis of Nathanael’s opinion, neither Jesus nor Philip argues with him. Instead, Jesus remains nearby and Philip simply invites Nathanael to ‘come and see;—apparently, not a bad evangelism strategy.” Worship invites us to wonder about who invited us to “Come…

The Reality of Death

Our Lenten worship series, Composting Faith, continues as we reflect upon the location toward which Jesus journeys and wonder about the locations we might be called to move toward as we hold our lives & scripture in conversation with the Divine while spending time at the compost pile. Curriculum for Christianity as a School for Love

Matt’s message invites reflection on the movement of love within Christianity.  Christianity teaches that we are created in love, we are born into a fallen world, and we are redeemed by God’s love. This is the curriculum for our school of love. How might this curriculum shape our daily lives?

God

Matt’s message invites reflection on God. How might the Bible and Christian tradition shape the ways we talk about God? What images and metaphors might be faithful in our day to express God’s ineffability? This is the third week of our five-week worship series called On Ramp.

Letters of John

Matt’s message is rooted in 1 John 4 and invites reflection on the significance of John’s Letters for our everyday lives.

Experience

Our worship series on the Quadrilateral continues with emphasis on Experience. Linda’s message is rooted in 1 John 4.1.  “John Wesley believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason” (UM Book of Discipline). How is our faith vivified by experience?
