Toward Sunday

We’ll be led in worship this Sunday by The Harley White Jr. Orchestra.  Join us at 10:30 am in the Sanctuary for Jazz Jubilee Worship at The Table.

We’ll be rooting worship in the sounds of jazz and reading Psalm 66.8-20.  Here is a link to the full text.

The Psalmist begins with an invitation to praise God.  What does praising God look like in your life?  What role, if any, does music play for you in offering praise?

The Psalmist was brought to “a place of abundance” by God.  What does that look like in your life?  What abundant life do you hope for?

The Psalmist intends to come to God’s temple with burnt offerings and make sacrifices (bulls and goats).  How might your life be an offering to God this week?  What might you need to sacrifice?  Do you have an equivalent to “bulls and goats”?

For those in our Kitchen Tables who devote time together in the searching of Scripture, what questions arose during your gatherings?

We wondered why God would let the psalmist go through so much pain – “you let people ride over our heads”. But we were hopeful, that through the “tests”, that the psalmist still found joy and peace in his Creator.

Being honest with ourselves and with others, helps us see God, clearly – I think. The psalmist says, “if I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened”. In some of our bibles, iniquity was written as sin. When we are honest/transparent and realize that we are not perfect, and that we don’t need to be, we are able to truly seek God’s heart/will/plan. I think that is an offering to God – to offer ourselves.

We also shared some things that we’d like to be held in your thoughts and prayers:

For travels – lots of traveling.
For those who are affected by tragic and fierce weather.
For discerning who our messages and stories are meant for.
    For work, and “unsolvable” cases.
For our Kitchen Tables, and all the Kitchen Tables at The Table UMC.
    For new seasons…and empty chairs.

And a personal one, for my friend from the Talbert Leadership Institute and her family. Her father is very ill and it’s difficult to deal with. Please pray for her, too!

I LOVE THE TABLE on TAP!
