I’m old enough to remember this commercial. It was amazing to think that the sound quality from a recording might be good enough to break a glass. We never got it to work on my father’s cassette player! Some things are easier to fake than others. Speaking strictly as a female, some of us have been known to “fake things”. Why do we do that? Are we being polite? Are we in a hurry? Maybe we are afraid. Afraid of asking for what we want. Afraid of being who we want to be. If we ask for what we want and we get it, the depth of our feelings may increase. And then, maybe, our lives will be full and rich. But even that can be problematic if it points to the places in which our lives are less than happy. There is also the chance that we may ask for what we want and be denied. Then what? Maybe we will end up alone. That is frightening.
Jesus cries out on the cross to God “Why have you forsaken me?” but this is after Jesus has known God to be his constant companion in very difficult and challenging circumstances. Sometimes I wonder if Jesus knew how to ask for what he wanted in those final moments? Maybe Jesus didn’t know. Maybe he just wanted God to figure it out and make it happen. That’s what I want. A lot. And that is scary. So sometimes I go for faking it. How about you?
peace,
Linda
