Clapotis. Silk. 180 hours of knitting.

“I saw a scarf just like that at Walmart!”  lady at park.

I think to myself:   “Actually no, you didn’t.  This scarf may look like it came from Walmart but actually it was made by hand.  My hands.  And it took approximately 180 hours.  It is handcrafted, stitch by stitch, and it exists because I put blood sweat and tears into this scarf and ripped it out over and over again until I got the pattern just right.  I have just that much perseverance.  I am just that stubborn.  I care just that much about putting that many hours into this beautiful hand knit item which I gave to a friend on a significant anniversary.  Walmart would never carry a scarf like this, ever.”

I say:  “Thanks, actually I made it.”

Dear God,

Help me open my heart and accept those who do not grasp the immense value of my knitting.  Help me to do no harm and to do only good to them in the face of their complete lack of awareness of what it takes to do what I do.  Amen.

What is it like for you when people de-value the work you put into your hobby?  What is it like for you when people have no awareness of what it takes to “do what you do” to become rooted in grace and grow in faith?
