Light

In the Bible it says:  “What has come into being in Jesus was life, and the life was the light of all people.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it”  (John 1.3b-5)   But yesterday for many of us, it felt like the darkness won.  For awhile it was dark for us all.  For many of us it feels dark still.  So what will be your next step?

7:00 pm Good Friday Worship The Table at Central UMCIs it okay to stayed glued to the TV?  Yes, if you need to.  Is it okay not to watch any TV, and just do exactly what you’d already planned?  Yes; anything you are thinking, able to do or block out, to get through these days, is okay.  Do we go ahead with our plans to make gingergread houses with our little ones?  Of course.  Do we make another visit to a seemingly uncomprehending relative at the convalescent home?  Of course.   Do we go through our neighborhood today picking up a little, even as we know that there will be more tomorrow?  Of course.  Do we plant bulbs in the cold rocky crummy earth?  Always!  Do we light candles?  Again–always.  From Anne Lamott (fb 12.15.12)

All over the world, when tragedy strikes, what do they do? They imitate a Christmas Eve candlelight service. And on Christmas Eve what do we do? We hold a candlelight vigil of hope and healing amidst suffering. One shooter, millions of prayers. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.  (From Steve Garness-Holmes (fb 12.15.12)
