This week we continue our worship series called Artisans at The Table based on the book The Artisan Soul: Crafting Your Life Into a Work of Art by Erwin McManus. We hope this worship series will help us claim our creative essence and celebrate our lives as works of art.

This week we will consider the story of The Garden of Eden and focus on Voice.
“Our internal voice begins as an echoing of the voices of others….Before we are able to declare who we are, our soul forms around the declarations of others telling us who we are….Pablo Picasso said: ‘Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.’ ….Picasso’s narrative is characterized by a drive for human uniqueness and a strong sense of his own personal genius. One of Picasso’s earliest memories is the internal narrative passed on to him by his mother. “My mother said to me ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope” Instead, I was a painter and became Picasso.” (from chapter 2 “Voice” in The Artisan Soul: Crafting Your Life Into a Work of Art by Erwin McManus.)
Read Genesis 3:1-11a and make note of the voices represented in the dialogue.
What messages shape this story? What are some of the voices you hear inside your own head that are part of your story?
