Toward Sunday

On Ramp is our five-week worship series imaginatively exploring central topics in Christian faith. We turn from Bible to God this week in worship. We are drawing upon and adapting some of the framework of a series called Animate (Faith) by SparkHouse Publications as we prepare this worship series for our particular context.

Make a list of your images of God.

What images have been most helpful for you? What images of God have been most challenging?

Think of a time when you have felt constrained by images or names others have used for God, what was that experience like for you?

Look up and read aloud each of the following texts: 1 Timothy 6.16, John 1.18, Matthew 6.9, Revelation 4.1-11, and Luke 13.34.

“The great French philosopher Blaise Pascal said it simply and well: “We are embarked.” In other words, we aren’t just theorizing about a hypothetical journey or planning a potential voyage for someday in the future. We are already at sea. Actually underway, in a wild adventure of suns and sea and tide. Brian McLaren says, “God is the wind in the sail and the sea we sail upon; the source and goal of our quest” (Animate Facilitator’s Guide, 16).

How are you embarked on a journey of seeking God and keeping the quest alive?  How does your image of God inform your journey?
