Table Farm bloomed from the dreams of an intergenerational team at The Table at Central United Methodist Church to gather with food in ways that might lessen the prevalence of isolation and bolster vibrant, sustainable community rooted in God’s all-inclusive love.
Leaning into the tactile crafts of food growing and bread baking, we seek to center the ingenuity of young people, collaborate across generations, contribute towards larger movements of justice, and cultivate climate resilience.
We have farmed a small plot of land on the back of Saint Robert Catholic School in Hollywood Park and shared the produce with the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership Food Closet since late in the spring of 2020. We donated over 2,400 pounds of locally grown produce in the summer of 2023.
Unfortunately, we learned in the spring of 2023 that Saint Robert will be developing the land we have tended over these last few years in order to address deferred maintenance on the church and school facilities. We plan to grow food on this site in 2024 and will then be forced to relocate the farm to a new site. An intergenerational team from The Table UMC is exploring new location possibilities for Table Farm and will share progress updates throughout the coming year.
