Ben

Ben Kopf began playing music at the young age of six, when his parents gave him his first guitar. While growing up in Virginia Beach, VA, he took lessons with the great jazz and blues guitarist, Henry Johnson.

After moving to Sacramento, CA in 2001, he switched his focus to the electric bass. He learned the upright bass while playing for the El Camino Fundamental High School Jazz Band, and in his senior year he played with the Sacramento Youth Symphony Jazz Orchestra.

Ben was accepted to Berklee College of Music in 2008 and graduated in 2014. While attending Berklee, he studied Contemporary Writing and Production with a minor in Conducting. He was a part of the folk scene in Boston, playing bass for the bluegrass band The Whiskey Boys, and playing guitar and songwriting for the folk/pop group the Hillary Reynolds Band.

Since moving back to Sacramento in 2014, Ben has played bass with many jazz groups, including the Byron Colborn Trio and the Shawn Thwaites Rebel Quartet. He currently conducts the orchestra at Mira Loma High School and works full time as an independent music professional.
