Worship this coming Sunday will invite us to consider what we might learn from vacationing as we seek to root our lives in Grace and grow in faith. We will reflect on the relationship of vacation to Sabbath.
Our Scripture this week is Psalm 71.1-6.
Vacationing can provide refuge from the stresses of everyday life. Vacations can deliver us from routine and renew us with new life. Followers of Jesus know that such refuge and deliverance comes from God as we root ourselves in Grace. This week we will reflect on summer vacations and consider how the keeping of Sabbath might function in our lives as a particular expression of regular vacationing. Dorothy Bass writes, “Sabbath keeping is not about taking a day off but about being recalled to our knowledge of and gratitude for God’s activity in creating the world, giving liberty to captives, and overcoming the powers of death.”
The Psalmist begins, “In you, O Lord, I take refuge…”
How are you keeping the Sabbath, or rooting your life in Grace, these days?
Our summer worship series has invited us to notice Grace all summer. We have reflected on summer activities ranging from gardening to swimming to picnics to blockbusters and beyond.
Have you had any particular insights related to this summer series?
Where and when have you noticed Grace this summer?
