Returning to Egypt

Worship invited reflection on Joseph’s flight into Egypt as recorded in Matthew 2.  As we all face change, how might we be called to return to “Egypt” in our own lives? (Part 2 of 4)

Deep Commitment

Matt’s message is rooted in Matthew 22.34-46.  This is the final week of our series called Deep.  The worship series has invited our community to deepen our commitments in the following areas for the coming year:  rooted in Grace, growing in faith, and reaching in love.  This message invited our community into a time of communion and prayer and sharing our commitments.

Baptism

We celebrated four Baptisms in worship on Sunday, October 16.  Matt’s message invites reflection on the significance of Baptism and God’s invitation to practice our Baptism for all the days of our lives.

Reaching in Love

Our worship invited reflection on reaching in love.  Linda’s message is rooted in Matthew 22.1-13.  The meditation on the text is based on the writing of Steve Garnaas-Holmes (Unfolding Light October 2011).

Growing in Faith

Our worship series, Deep, continues with reflection on Growing in Faith.  Matt’s message is rooted in 2 Corinthians 8.1-15.  The podcast opens with a segment of our music team leading If Not Now by Carrie Newcomer and closes with our musicians leading a version of You Gotta Move.

Rooted in Grace

Part II of Deep.  How might we root our lives in Grace in the coming year?  Matt’s message is centered in Philippians 2.1-13.

Measuring Depth

How do we measure the depth of our faith lives? How do measure our growth? Matt’s message is rooted in Matthew 20.1-16, the parable of the laborers in the field. What outputs do we measure in hopes of growing in faith? What are the outcomes we desire as we root your life in Grace, grow in faith, & reach in love? This is the first in a six-week series on deepening our faith lives as individuals and as a community.

September 11 Ten Years Later

Selections from worship on September 11, 2011.  Ten Years Later:  Grievance to Hope | Hatred to love.  The music team opens with a live version of Tears by Agape (Dave Scherer).  This song was woven throughout the worship.  Linda frames Psalm 119 with a brief reflection on 9/11 and Matt closes with selections from Psalm 119 from The Message.

Labor Day Worship

Our Labor Day Worship invites reflection on Dorothy Day’s donut plan and our sense of vocational calling.  Greg Eddy, an organizer and activist for California teachers, and Antonio Garza, a local farmer, witness to their work and their callings.

Big Band

Linda’s message reflects on Matthew 16.21-28 and invites our community of faith to reach in love through the Sacramento Valley AIDS Run/Walk.

Combo

We reflect on what it means to reach in love as small groups, what we call Kitchen Tables in our community.  Linda’s message is rooted in Paul’s letter to the Romans and a sermon by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Matt closes the message with an invitation to wonder about how our Kitchen Tables might sustain and embolden our efforts to reach in love through the gifts God bestows upon us all uniquely.

Solo

We reflect on what it means to reach in love as individuals.  Linda’s message is rooted in the bold faithfulness of the Canaanite woman which led to the transformation of Jesus’ understanding of his mission (Matthew 15.21-28).
