Earth’s Voice

The Greek word for “revelation” is apokalypsis. It literally means “A lifting of the veil.” Dr. Micah D. Kiel argues that John, the stated author of the book of Revelation, does not prescribe the destruction of the earth, but rather envisions an ecological alternative where God is sovereign, the Earth matters and has a voice, and Revelation offers a glimpse at wild and uncultivated places as the future that God will create. In this second of a three-part series, Pastor…

Reaching in Love

Worship is rooted in Job 38-41. How might we, like Job, be challenged by the Divine this day to expand our vision and to see beyond ourselves, to see with God’s eyes the world’s intricacy and wild beauty, and surrender our personal expectations? Micah

Linda’s message on Micah encourages our community of faith to make this short passage, within this short book, part of our library as we return to the basics of doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God.

Rethink.

Linda’s message weaves reflections from four persons from our community of faith with Mark 3.20-35 and the revival of the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign. How might this encounter from the Gospel of Mark challenge & inspire us to rethink our understandings of family and the social structures in which we move? How might this witness lure us deeper into the messiness of love?

Falling and Rising

Worship on this first Sunday in the season of Christmas is rooted in Luke 2.22-40. Matt & Linda invite reflection on the blessing of the infant Jesus by Simeon & Anna. How might God be calling us into a life of falling and rising?

Baptism

We gathered in worship this morning to celebrate the baptism of 19 children & adults at The Table, to renew our baptismal vows, and to share our Deep Commitments. Worship was rooted in Matthew 22.34-40 and Linda’s message invites reflection on Jesus’ call to love God and neighbor.

Hidden Figures

Linda’s message weaves the acclaimed film Hidden Figures  with Paul’s letter to early Christians in Rome (Romans 8.12-25). Hidden Figures shares the story of three female, African-American mathematicians who serve a critical role in the early years of NASA space program. Their lives were often hidden from the powers that be. The math they uncovered was also hidden from other scientists of their time. Just has God was moving through these hidden figures,  God was also moving through a hidden…

Wonder Woman

This week in the worship series Faith & Films, Linda takes us through the recent film, Wonder Woman. Rooted in Zechariah 9.9-12, Linda tells the story of a young warrior who wants for peace, similar to Yahweh’s march to the Temple. God reminds us that the world needs to be saved and that we need to be there to follow.
