The F-Word

The F-Word is at the heart of Christianity. Matt’s message is rooted in Peter’s experience of a dark night that began began apocalyptically and then got worse (Luke 22). Peter betrayed the very center of who he said he wanted to be. Peter f’ed.  What might the f-word have to teach us about following Jesus today?

No. No. No. No. No.

Linda’s message invites reflection on Peter’s call to follow Jesus (Luke 5.1-11).  Our worship series, Failing Forward, holds our lives in conversation with the “Failure Resume” developed by Peter throughout the New Testament. Ultimately, Jesus would chose to build the church upon Peter. What might we learn from Peter’s story as we seek to follow Jesus today?

Rooted in Grace

Matt’s message invites us to see the restoring of sight to Bartimaeus son of Timaeus in Mark’s gospel (10.45-52) through the lens of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton.”  History has its eye on us. As we gather to celebrate the baptism of 2 adults & 7 children in worship and share in offering our Deep Commitments to God and this community of faith, may the faith of Bartimaeus son of Timaeus be passed on to us all.

Are You Ready?

Matt’s message is rooted in Mark 8.27-38. How might this tipping point in the Gospel of Mark call us to surrender our thin faith and find our way to costly discipleship?

Little Bit%#!

How might the raw and contentious encounter of Jesus with a Gentile woman of Syrophoenician origin be a tipping point for him and all of us? Matt’s message is rooted in Mark 7.24-37.

Anchored in Communion

Matt’s message is rooted in John 6.56-71. How might we sustain our relationship with God through Christ by breaking bread — sharing carbs from heaven?

Micah

Linda’s message on Micah encourages our community of faith to make this short passage, within this short book, part of our library as we return to the basics of doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God.

Repeat.

Linda’s message is rooted in two parables from Mark 4:26-34. Jesus uses parables about scattering seeds and mustard plants to challenge & inspire followers in his day and all of us today to notice the kin-dom of God growing all around us.

Resist.

Matt’s message is rooted in Mark 2.23-3.6 and the revival of the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign. How might we be inspired and challenged by Jesus’s reclaiming of sabbath-keeping as resistance to the religious & political establishment’s desire for stability at the expense of those who are hungry & suffering?

Embracing Diversity in Gender & Sexuality

Matt’s message holds the story of the Ethiopian eunuch from Acts 8. 26-40 in conversation with Lady Bird’s representation of gender & sexuality.  What might scripture have to teach us about embracing diversity in gender and sexuality today?
