Falling and Rising

Worship on this first Sunday in the season of Christmas is rooted in Luke 2.22-40. Matt & Linda invite reflection on the blessing of the infant Jesus by Simeon & Anna. How might God be calling us into a life of falling and rising?

Things Are Not Okay

In the midst of our hopes & fears, we welcome God’s coming again this Advent season. Linda’s message invites reflection on Isaiah 64 & Mark 13.24-37.

PG-13?

Biblical scholar Phyllis Trible writes,  “One female has chosen another female in a world where life depends upon men. There is no more radical decision in all the memories of Israel.” Linda’s message on Chapter 3 of Ruth invites reflection on the layers of meaning and the sexual innuendos deployed by the authors of this often neglected chapter from the Hebrew bible. How might God be calling us to risk in our daily lives?

Baptism

We gathered in worship this morning to celebrate the baptism of 19 children & adults at The Table, to renew our baptismal vows, and to share our Deep Commitments. Worship was rooted in Matthew 22.34-40 and Linda’s message invites reflection on Jesus’ call to love God and neighbor.

Tending Soil

Linda’s message is rooted in Philippians 3.4b-14.  What seeds might God be planting within you that need your tending in order to grow? What’s holding you back from taking your next step of growing in faith?

Radical Ritual

Over sixty thousand people gathered this week for Burning Man to celebrate Radical Ritual. As thousands searched for purpose & meaning on the playa, we gathered in worship at The Table to reflect on the depth & beauty of our ancient tradition’s radical rituals. Pastor Matt invites reflection on the radical roots of Holy Communion. Pastor Linda reminds us of the healing waters of Baptism. Pastor Chris challenges us to receive God’s anointing for our work in the world.

Found

Our worship series, Found, invites reflection on noticing grace in our everyday lives. Linda’s message is rooted in the story of Peter walking on water and then calling out to be saved as he begins to sink (Matthew 14.22-31). Traditional readings of this story focus on Peter’s doubt and invite us to simply trust Jesus more deeply. Linda’s message revisits this story and wonders if it might actually be read in a very different way, a way that might help…

Hidden Figures

Linda’s message weaves the acclaimed film Hidden Figures  with Paul’s letter to early Christians in Rome (Romans 8.12-25). Hidden Figures shares the story of three female, African-American mathematicians who serve a critical role in the early years of NASA space program. Their lives were often hidden from the powers that be. The math they uncovered was also hidden from other scientists of their time. Just has God was moving through these hidden figures,  God was also moving through a hidden…

Moana

This week in our worship series Faith & Films, Linda takes us through Disney’s new story of Moana and ties it together with the scripture of Isaiah 55.10-13. This film walks us through the beauty and mystery of God’s creation through Polynesian stories and mythology. Like Moana, Isaiah points to the cycles of nature as the story of God’s promise. We must learn to trust God’s desire to bless and re-create and allow us to pause in the beauty of…

Wonder Woman

This week in the worship series Faith & Films, Linda takes us through the recent film, Wonder Woman. Rooted in Zechariah 9.9-12, Linda tells the story of a young warrior who wants for peace, similar to Yahweh’s march to the Temple. God reminds us that the world needs to be saved and that we need to be there to follow.

The Divine Dance

Linda’s message is rooted in Genesis 18. 1-8. Linda invites us to wonder about the Trinity, as we are all part of God’s flowing Divine Dance. So the question is, will you open up and dance with the Divine?
