Wonder Woman
This week in the worship series Faith & Films, Linda takes us through the recent film, Wonder Woman. Rooted in Zechariah 9.9-12, Linda tells the story of a young warrior who wants for peace, similar to Yahweh’s march to the Temple. God reminds us that the world needs to be saved and that we need to be there to follow.
Saying No, Saying Yes
Matt’s message is rooted in the story of Jesus encountering temptations in the wilderness (Matthew 4.1-11). As we reflect on what it means to claim Jesus as the Christ and to be claimed by God through the love of Christ, the message invites us to consider what we might need to say “no” to in order to say “yes” to experiencing Jesus as Christ.
Compassion
Matt’s message is rooted in Isaiah 49.8-16. Isaiah writes, “Can a woman forget her nursing child?” God loves us even more deeply than any mother could love her nursing child. This means God needs us. God needs you. Not just abstractly, but intimately.
Holy
Linda’s message is rooted in Leviticus 19: 1-18. To be Holy is to seek God in all things that we do. May we seek to love others just as God loves us each and every day.
Life
Matt’s message is rooted in Deuteronomy 30: 15-20. Moses believes that living life means to walk in the ways of God. To follow the Law, love our God and love our neighbors, and it will lead you to Life. We must find our way, wherever we are, and choose life.
Christmas Day
Linda’s message on Christmas Day is rooted in Luke 2.15-20. We wonder & share about Christmas moments as we celebrate the coming of God among us.
See.
Linda’s message is rooted in Matthew 11.2-11. On this third Sunday of Advent, we are called to ask just as John the Baptist did, “Are you the one?”, and seek to see the love of God here and everywhere around us.
Jephthah’s Daughter
In this last week of taking a closer look at troubling texts in scripture, Matt reads through the story of Jephthah’s sacrifice of his only daughter (Judges 11:29-40). We are called to be more faithful every day and delve into following the ways of hope, healing, love, and liberation in our communities.
An Unnamed Woman
Matt’s message is rooted in the story of the Unnamed Woman in Judges 19: 1-30. May we listen to the lessons in this story and focus our hearts on those who are hurting and vulnerable. Help us to be faithful followers of the Way by Jesus.
Salt.
Linda’s message, rooted in 2 Timothy 2.8-15, teaches us that time is the most important ingredient towards developing a better life of faith as we watch over others in love and allows ourselves to be watched over in love. It takes time to knead and fold in the salt in our lives to gain a better Christlike character.
Flour.
How might the beautiful, simple, & inspiring ingredients that have been passed down to us through the generations stir up the gift of God among us? Matt’s message invites the love of God to rekindle our imaginations as we discern making Deep Commitments at The Table. Worship on is rooted in 2 Timothy 1.1-14.
No Love Dying
Linda’s message is rooted in 2 Corinthians 5.17. We must find our christian identity in love and turn our fear into hope. God’s love will transform the world into a place where there is justice and equality in which we call Heaven on Earth.
